Top 10 things we learnt about Carlsberg Sports Bar:1) Located in the bowels of Leicester Square’s vast Empire Casino, the Carlsberg Sports Bar is targeted at the extremely niche overlap between gamblers and sports enthusiasts.
2) Like a William Hill bookies, in fact, but ten times the size, full of plasma screens and comfy sofas, populated by beautiful people and with excellent food and drink readily available.

3) And - to continue the rather laboured comparison - with plush roulette tables, dazzling chandeliers and state-of-the-art electronic gambling stations to hand, instead of wheezing old men scribbling on bits of paper.
4) A little slice of Las Vegas in the heart of London, then, and with the extra perk of showing proper sports that make sense. Like cricket.
5) Those canny enough to book ahead for popular sporting events (football, rugby, cricket, tennis, formula 1, basketball, NFL, all amply covered) can gain access to the exclusive inner circle of tables, which orbit a monolithic plasma screen and benefit from brisk table service.
6) There are more than enough TVs for everyone to partake in the action, in any case, and the atmosphere for major events is effervescent. However, it should be noted that anyone expecting a quiet, romantic evening out in Central London is in for a rude awakening…
7) Service is bustling, efficient and even a little charming, with the staff happy to suggest their favourite dishes - which is helpful, as the well-worn paper menus are all but unreadable.
8) The food is definitely above par for a venue that could probably get away with serving TV dinners: the burgers are fulsome and filling (notably the delicious pulled pork variant), the house special of buttermilk chicken is mouth-watering, and what the chocolate fudge cake lacks in finesse, it makes up for in sheer volume.
9) Drinks are plentiful as well, with a decent selection of beers (Carlsberg, for a start…), ales, ciders and wines accessible from the main bar with a minimum of fuss. Just don’t let it cloud your judgement at the blackjack table.
10) In conclusion: when it comes to sports bars in Central London, Carlsberg’s flashy venue at the Empire Casino trounces the opposition 180 to love, with a touchdown in the third wicket. Checkmate!
